Strategy 2030
CPHC exists to support and represent academic leaders in computing across UK Higher Education. We advocate for the advancement of computing as a discipline, promote collaboration and best practice, and influence national policy to ensure computing education and research serves society ethically, sustainably, and innovatively.
Vision
By 2030, CPHC will be recognised as the leading voice for academic computing leadership – shaping responsible and sustainable practice, championing ethical leadership, advancing pedagogy, supporting staff development, and enabling knowledge and resource exchange across the UK and globally.
Strategic Priorities
- Champion the growth of confident, capable, and future-ready academic leaders in computing across the UK.
- Provide national leadership on integrating emerging technologies — particularly Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security — into computing Higher Education and research, with a focus on curriculum design, assessment practice, and collaboration with industry.
- Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in computing by leveraging data-driven insights to inform decision-making, address gender imbalances, and promote inclusive leadership across UK Higher Education.
- Foster a vibrant and engaged membership by articulating the collective benefits and influence of CPHC.
Business Plan 2025/26
- Objective: Pilot a professional development framework for senior Computing leaders and evaluate its effectiveness across diverse institutional contexts by July 2026.
- Key Result: Conduct separate, targeted surveys of CPHC members and the wider Computing leadership community to identify professional development needs, preferred delivery formats, and priority leadership competencies.
- Key Result: Produce a structed leadership development pilot, including a full programme plan, content outline, and delivery schedule by April 2026.
- Key Result: Deliver a pilot leadership development initiative for senior Computing academics, engagement participants from at least 10 institutions and gathering structured feedback for evaluation.
- Objective: Establish CPHC’s national leadership in addressing the impact of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security on computing education through thought leadership, curriculum guidance, and engagement with academic and industry partners by July 2026.
- Key Result: Host a series of seminars featuring industry leaders on AI and Cyber Security in education, with at least 80% of participants rating them as valuable in post-event evaluations.
- Key Result: Publish an evaluative report demonstrating the value and impact of CPHC’s outputs in AI and Cyber Security education, with a focus on quality of insight, relevance to members, and influence on national discourse.
- Objective: Enable Computing departments across the UK to advance their DEI strategies through evidence-informed guidance, practical resources, and community-driven support by July 2026.
- Key Result: Develop and publish a DEI data resource for UK Computing departments, providing benchmarks, insights, and indicators to support local strategic planning and progress tracking.
- Key Result: Fund at least one CPHC-defined DEI project that delivers measurable impact and provides transferable insights to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in UK Computing departments.
- Objective: Identify priority support needs across UK Computing departments through a national member survey and initiate a series of commissioned projects to address these areas and strengthen CPHCC’s engagement and value to members by July 2026.
- Key Result: Design and deliver a national survey to CPHC members to identify priority areas for departmental support, with a response rate from at least 50 UK Computing departments.
- Key Result: Solicit and receive expressions of interest from CPHC members to lead or contribute to commissioned projects in identified priority areas, with at least 10 departments submitting proposals for collaboration.
- Key Result: Commission at least two one-year, multi-institutional projects directly aligned with the priority areas identified through the member survey, with clear deliverable and evaluation plans.
NB: the CPHC business year runs from 1 July to 30 June.
It is led by a Committee and supported by an administrator, and organises an annual conference.
